What's the best strategy game available for PCs?

I used to be a big fan of Civilisation II but not really played games for years. Looking for something with the same level of involvement.

for you i would get CIVIII or the new one which I havent played CIV IV, you cant beat them, might wanna try age of empires as well

Not played civilisation, but the Total war series has loads of strategy involved in it. If you ever played the board game Risk you will soon recognise it.

The best thing is that when you fight the battles you actually control massive armies, but are able to organise each individual formation very easily. Just like being a general on a battle field.

Medieval total war two has just come out. you will need quite a good graphics card to play it but it is well worth the investment.

Civ IV is a good strategic game.

I'd recommend Medieval II Total War, but the strategic element is not the big selling point - it's the battles themselves. Take a look at the website.

It is not simulation it is strategy now because of all the new add-ons.
The Sims 1 is simulation

The sims 2 is mainly your playing with life now.

Well as a fairly new RTS I like Joint Task Force...its alright, beats any C&C out there
