'Stormed 16 addresses' with 60 officers and 30 RSPCA staff...for 26 mutts! So many numbers - wonder if the police were armed (with equally snarl-happy German Shepherds)?

Please people. Each case should be taken individually.

Good training by a strong owner means that these dogs are a joy to be with. They can be protective, but when channelled this is not a problem.

I do agree that there are owners that do not take their dogs for sufficient exercise and do not acquaint the animal with other dogs or people and that these people should not have the right to own such dogs, but I think a blanket ban is a mistake and that dog licenses could be brought back for the larger breeds.

So in answer to your question: No, it might not be too much, but it probably could have been dealt with sooner.

(I do not own a large dog of the breeds mentioned but do own a rescue dog from the NCDL)

Not too late - we'll porbably see a lot more over the next few weeks.

But I don't agree with killing the poor beasts - the owners should be castrated though, and have their shell suits taken away.

In this country far more people are attacked every year by labradors than pit bulls, staffordshire terriers and rottweilers put together. Sould we have them all destroyed ?

Dangerous dogs eating children: It's been going on for centuries we just hear about it more because of rolling 24 hour news. It won't stop but its good to see an effort is being made.

it is too late for little ellie and her parents, but not too much. every single pit bull or pit bull type in england should be rounded up and destroyed and their owners charged with owning them. they are banned already aren't they? i hope this continues throughout the country.

Call it political 'guilt'.
The dangerous dogs Act was however a misdirected law. It's the owners who should be sorted out, the hounds are their extension.
