Yes! In fact getting a cat is one of the best types of pets that you can get for smaller size apartments.

Cats like more confined spaces as a general rule, and will settle in quickly in an area that they can sort of "claim" as their own.

They adapt quickly and are very content to stay in a relatively smaller space. They don't need a full back yard to feel safe and happy.

I would especially recommend an older (over 1 year old) cat that is ready to settle in to a nice bed and clean litter box. Significantly less training is necessary and less insanity and patience is less of a factor.

I would really encourage you to visit the local county animal shelter (only The Humane Society as a last resort). As pets in the "county pound" (as it is often referred), are often neglected and in much more need of public attention. The Humane Society is a good place, but already receives enough attention and so forth due to the different types of funding sources.

And maybe consider getting a friendly black cat. For some reason people don't like them, and they spend a lot of time in the shelter. Again, people tend not to like black cats for some reason.

Once you do get your cat, be sure to keep him/her "indoor only", as outdoor cats tend to have more medical/stray issues.

Best of luck and otherwise congratulations on your new cat adoption!

a cat is fine, just as long as you let it out when it wants to, dont let it locked inside the house. i have a friend who got a cat for the same reason, small apartment, but he never let the cat out. with in 6 months, the cat was histerical, you couldnt even look at it or it would attack you. he gave the cat to his father who lived in a huge ranch. the cat completely changed attitudes and is the sweetest, friendliest cat ever. his name is zorro too.

if you wont be able to let the cat out in your apartment, you can get a rabbit. rabbits can indoor pets 24/7. i have one to prove it and he prefers laying on the kitchen chair or the bathroom sink all day long than hanging locked up in a cage outside. if your into rabbits, ask me any questions i can help ya out. you can find pics of my little fur ball on my 360's page on the right side.

You need a rat or two! They are easy to look after, (although they can smell a bit when it gets hot so you need to clean them a little more often) but you can toilet train them, and teach them to do amazing things! If you intend to spend a lot of time with it, one would be ok, but rats are social animals and do much better if they have another rat. I have four of the darlings and they are great! Just remember that if you let them out of their cage and let them run around the house, you must RAT PROOF YOUR HOUSE! Rats are rats and chew everything, and boy, do I mean everything. they do not care if it is your favourite shirt, or shoe, or if it's the tv/phone cord! Just put it away if you don't want it chewed, and they can climb almost anything! They do love human contact so try to spend as much time with them as you can!

GOOD LUCK!!

Its ok. You could take a cat but do it from a shelter. You know there are many animals there that need love, and I'm sure you are the right person for it.

Yes, absolutely. Just make sure it's OK with your landlord first, and don't lie.

Landlords can come to your apartment to check on things, or if there's something wrong, like a leak that is causing damage to another apartment, they can enter yours. You don't want to be caught with an animal that is not allowed by your lease.

Cats are ideal apartment dwellers.
