In Singapore, there are a total of 4 renowned universities.

Official Government-Aided Universities:
The major & recognised universities will be (1) NUS (National University of Singapore) and (2) NTU (Nanyang Technological University).

Government-Private Universities:
Other minor universities will be (3) SMU (Singapore Management University), (4) SIM (Singapore Institute of Management).

Private Universities:
JCU (James Cook University), MDIS (Management Development Institute of Singapore) , Infomatics, PSB Academy, Chicago University, Monash University etc.

Of course, most of the JC students will be entitled to enrol into NUS much easily than the poly students. Most poly students will be entitled to enrol into NTU more easily. And normally, more poly students prefer NTU because they've module exemptions to shorten their course of studies. Thus, leaving the weaker ones to go into other private schools.

It actually depends on the student whether he wants to study courses more related to architecture, business, law, banking, social & society, medical or engineering. NUS offers architecture, law, social & society & medical courses which are distinctive to NTU which offers better courses in engineering areas. For example, NUS is famous for its law & medical courses because it is the only university offering these degrees but with the rising demand of law courses in the recent years, SMU has just released law courses this 5th Jan 2007. But if you want to study engineering courses, NTU will be a better choice because more expertises teaches engineering stuffs in this university and thus, NTU is widely well-known for its engineering degree courses etc. SMU & SIM are schools that focus more on business related courses. So you've got to make up your mind on what courses you'll be taking and which school is a better choice for your own course of study.

I, personally, feel that NTU is a better choice because it not only provides good education system, it also provides hands-on practicals more than NUS or other schools. And, NTU gives their students a better studying environment. Just that Singapore universities are accepting too many foreign students and affecting the studying market, making alot of our local students suffer and have major drawbacks!

in singapore, the two main universities are NUS and NTU. both are having high ranking universally. well it depends on what kind of course u plan to do. if it is more on science, NUS will b a better choice. if it is based on technology more, NTU will do. hope this helps....

You have to be the judge of what you eventually want to become. If you are looking for a specialist degree then you will have to choose the Uni that caters to your need and offers better coaching facilities. If you are not bothered what you will eventually become any Uni is as good as the other.
