Depends on what you most enjoy doing with them. Personally I can't imagine being without Microsoft Word... I enjoy writing fan-fiction.
You'd need to have a word-processing software. A photo editing software. Maybe a program for video editing if you enjoy creating your own short films, or setting your pictures to music. A DVDR/CDR burner is useful too. The possibilities are just about limitless. There is something for everyone. And when you've decided what that is... then build your ultimate best computer.
