It was a war I was never in favor of as it made no sense then as Saddam was a contained threat! The Congress and press gave Bush a pass didnt ask serious questions! Now when Congress sees the folly they take cover when they are as complicit as Bush! Any friends we had in the Muslim world are now clandestine friends and the Arab streeet is solidly against us. All for a policy - Democratic government - in the Middle East! A wholly lunatic idea! Study the nation states of the region and the history behind them! Sadly there are countries where democracy can not be imposed on a people who are jealous and have hate for his neighbor! Mind you I am a conservative Republican whose major at University was American Foreign Policy so those who blindly follow the president please offer thought out and reasoned answers not mindless drivel and liberals dont give me a line of Bush is a war criminal!! I want to hear thought out reasons on you views of the "new" policy on Iraq. Can we still "win"!!

The " New Policy" is just another label. Maybe it will be the new catch phrase " Stay the course" " resolve" "WMD"

Iraq was just fine before we got there. So Sadaam killed a few thousand Kurds. How many are dead now? Is it better that people die if we killed them or Sadaam? At least it was stable with him in power. All the claims that lead us to Iraq have proven false. No factual evidence to support the Governments stated reasons for why we went in, which they have recanted on most of them, citing poor intelligence.

I find it hard to beleive that a country as advanced as ours that put man on the moon, that has sattelites orbiting the planet that can read license plates could not gather information about a potential enemy.

Depends on whose definition of WIN will be used

Will we spread peace and capitalism there with the addition of 20k troops. I seriously doubt it. The problem there is the clash of cultures. Some assume they want democracy and capitalism.

Sadaam's rule kept order through fear but he had complete control after that was rendered usunder chaos ensued due to ethnic, tribal, religious strife and probably a little help from us just to stir the pot.

Just read the news stories online and see what is stated and what really happens and follow the money trail and you have your answer.

Which will break first .....our resolve and Budget or their determination...thats the question. I think I already have the answer

when are people going to learn that everything is not public information. Republicans and Democrats knows this. it is easy to judge, when you only hear what the media reports. I am totally convinced that Bush knows exactly how to handle Iraq. I am glad Saddam was hung. Democrats lied before and during election time, they never have had a plan on anything except pointing the finger at some one else. As for as friends in the Muslim world, we never had any, they want ALL Americans dead. If the democrats would stop being such a traitor to their own country, the war will be won. Kind of hard for Bush because democrats like Clinton and the Squealer of the house would like to turn the US into Europe, communist country. You made some good points. H Clinton's book called It Takes A Village is mostly about raising some one Else's kids ( like she is a expert) had just one and she was raised by nanny's. The mentality of Clinton 's and Bush is like the difference in day light and dark, Clinton's are the dark. Bill C went in and shot up a few building to get public eye off his impeachment. Bush went in to clean house, which he should have. I am totally behind Bush, new policy can work, but common sense says, takes more Troops. Liberals ran for election on war issues, now you see. Now they are hoping when the war is won, they will get the credit for winning it. All about dirty politics, them Liberals.

FRANCE was against the US-led war in Iraq from the beginning and recently blasted Washington for destabilizing the Mid East region with the forcible removal of Saddam.

Does this mean the chorus of "i-told-you-so" anti-Bush critics in the US have decided to switch camp a la francaise?

Bush's announcement to commit more troops is the ONLY viable option left before the Presidency expires. Withdrawal is out of the question at this point in time, madness even. Other new developments / factors accompanying this new plan of action would be pivotal. There is optimism for measured success but one need to give it a go... and let Lieutenant General David Petraeus do his job.

Dude, even if the war was illogical (I don't think it was, and I'm not going to argue it with anyone as stubborn as you on the Internet), the fact is that NOBODY has any clue how to get out of Iraq quickly without causing trouble. If they do, why don't we hear about THEIR plans? The press is almost all liberal, so they would surely report any decent plan their favorite politicians came up with in a heartbeat. But all the Democrats seem to be able to do is whine about things they can't change and brag about their new majority. I'm tired of all of this. Give us a decent idea that is supported by the leaders of the military, or shut the hell up! Good night!

It is sad that it took an upheaval in Congress for Bush to even ADMIT there were "mistakes" in Iraq. Republicans barely spoke against anything Bush did.

The American public was sold a bag of goods with this Iraq conflict. I was about 4 blocks away from the WTC on 9/11. I saw the people jump from windows and had an all too close look at the first tower collapsing. When Bush & Co sold the war as, "If we dont get them now, they will get us even worse," I believed him. Now 6 years later, the criminals who orchestrated 9/11 are still out there while we are bogged down in Iraq.

Second problem is that the war was entirely misplanned. When Colin Powell spoke out against the manner in which the war was being planned, he was ousted. Turns out he was right. This Iraq thing is becoming a disaster but if the country really wanted to pour its efforts into winning, I have no doubt the US could do what is needed to win. Problem is that we should have started differently years ago.

We don't have a choice, we must win. If not now, eventually. The war is being fought on many fronts, military, political, diplomatic, public relations, to name some. The disadvantage we have to face is that we don't have any strategic weapons that can defeat Muslim militants or defend peaceful Muslims from sectarian v.i.o.l.e.n.c.e. The advantage that we have is that Muslims form alliances ONLY when they have a "common" enemy, otherwise they are fighting each other.

The challenge in Iraq is one of perception of who is the common enemy, namely USA or Muslim e.x.t.r.e.m.i.s.t.s, and who is the most trusted ally. We want to at least try to maintain some semblance of loyalty to whatever we stand for in support of Iraq and other nations who figure out that ethnic cleansing and civil wars are not a desirable outcome. Otherwise, there will be t.e.r.r.o.r.ist states with nuclear weapons aimed at us.

Two of the most basic concepts of winning a war is to have a well supplied military and to have a military that outnumbers the enemy. The only aspect of this war that upsets me is the fact that it took the government so long to figure out how people have won wars for thousands of years.

He is a war criminal!

As American Foreign Policy major you should know why wars are fought and governments overthrown! If you remember correctly, it was our CIA who was conducting terrorist attacks on an elected government in Iran when their President didn't like our oil companies! We replaced him with our good buddy, the Shaw of Iran!

You should also know how Cuba was overturned!
How Afghanistan was taken over, who put Saddam in power and gave him weapons, and gave the green light for the Coup in Vietnam!

America could care less what the Iraqi government is as long as we get our oil! That is no change in a long-standing American policy!
