It's all about how we relate to money and to things.

The materialistic person will crave money and possessions and will do everything in the world to have those things.

The non-materialistic person does not crave money or possessions. They do not run his/her life.

I care for my child by buying her food (materialistic), I care for my child by comforting her when she's hurting (non-materialistic) I buy a rose for my friend as an act of kindness (materialistic) I am kind to my friend by listening to her (non materialistic) Being materialistic and not materialistic do not necessarily have to be compared or contrasted in extremes. Life involves both means. This is just an idea. Good luck on your essay.
