All these people keep crying about the problem with 4x4s being Gas guzzlers so they should not be in towns, but most 4x4s do around 30mpg and most of them are shorter in length than most executive saloons. Big BMW's and jags etc do about 18mpg around town. Why aren't they having a whine about Jags with only the driver and no passengers sat in traffic using more petrol?. Its the usual thing in this country someone brings a situation to light and all the sheep follow one another bleating about something they have not thought about or have knowledge of but feel it their duty to start shouting down 4x4s whenever they get the chance. If you don't like 4x4s don't buy one or ride in one and leave people alone that own one. I live in the countryside and need one for work and during the winter can get snowed in so its compulsory, and believe or not us countryside dweller sometimes venture into the cities and towns for one reason or another. And to be honest I don't like silly little town cars but I don't find every spare minute I have shouting about how dangerous they are and could be crushed like a tin can in an accident. As long as everyone is taxed insured and MOTed and sticking to the speed limits and not drunk at the wheel let people drive what they want... Please!

Yes it is!! - the Urban 4x4 speaks for itself.

Protestors are hardly heard. I commend the bbc for giving the air time.

well said the above man.....if you work hard and dont hurt no one doing so why cant yo drive what the hell you want!!!!!!!

off on a tangent but .........

bio diesel is econimically sound and "greener " so they say however the contries that export the stuff are if i remember what i read is correct are poor countries who are turning there farm land over to prodcing the crops to make the stuff so they cant feed themselves........ie no arable land.....

no doubt this government will raise taxes to feed them with subsidies and handouts costing us even more of hard earned and charging us more for driving a 4x4 too

this country is rapidly becoming third world in my opinion and the government hell bent on creating a virtual commnist "europeon community" just my opinion but whilst we have to care for the environment and consider others to a certain extent stuff the bloody "greens" and the ultimate self destruction of or own country via bowing down to every other country and lets start looking after our own!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

bottom line the harder you work the more you try to be upright and considerate the bigger the bloody stick you get beaten with..

the vast majority of urban 4x4's are under 5 years old so therefore are some of the more enviromentally friendly forms or carbon fuel based transport in london. maybe its about time that the black cabs of which there are far more were forced to go either electric or dual fuel. the crap one of them pumps out when he tries to beat you from the lights so he can push in front because he is in the wrong lane.

Not really!
The case against urban 4x4 is one of engines too large for their application being gas guzzlers and polluters;there is no defence

By the way,I am a Discovery driver, diesel, but that is because of my work

The BBC will always ask both parties in a dispute to voice their opinions on air.

If one party refuses to do so, it's not the BBC's fault.
