You need to separate Michael from Kramer. When he did his racist tirade, he was Michael; the episoses are Michael playing Kramer, one of the top characters in TV history.

I honestly think it was an attempt at getting a little publicity since the jobs hadn't exactly been rolling in for him since the show got cancelled.
The problem with that whole incident is that no one wants to talk about the heckling and the night-long crap the guys in the audience were giving him. Media bias ALWAYS makes things seem more controversial than they really are for ratings.
I don't think any differently of his acting and role as Kramer...I don't think any differently of Mel Gibson's direction or acting...only difference now is that instead of being talented guys, they're talented guys that are asshats in real life. It's just like when the lead singer of The Fugees...I can't remember her name...(Lauren Hill maybe?) made the statement that she'd rather her kids starve than to be patronized by white people buying her records. I still think she's talented, but on a personal level, she's a racist pig. There wasn't a lot of media coverage on that one, now was there?
I love the double standard when it comes to racism...it doesn't make it right for either party and I think anyone that says or does something to treat another human being poorly because of the color of their skin and stereotypes needs to be slapped around, but face it, some cases get more publicity while others are just swept under the rug. I think it's quite unfair.
I wouldn't let Michael Richards outburst ruin the show for you if you enjoyed it simply because Michael Richards and Cosmo Kramer are two different "entities". Besides, everyone screws up. From what I saw on the video, his little episode started out as a joke that crossed that line somewhat and when he realized he wasn't getting the result he wanted, he froze and turned into a dumbass.
I find it harder to watch reruns of Everybody Loves Raymond since Peter Boyle died...I get sad whenever I watch the show now because we lost one heck of a funny guy.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm a black guy (26 yrs old), when Seinfeld first came out I never watched it because I was always watching that FOX Thursday line up of Martain & NY Undercover. Plus I thought the show was extra corny. But when they started showing reruns my roommate (who is also black) put me on to it. I did enjoy some of the episodes. But after Richards went on his tirade I kinda find it hard to watch. Im well aware that Kramer is just a fictional character but I dont want to support someone with views that we should be "hanging from trees". Thats how that guy REALLY feels and he is only sorry because someone caught him on tape and the new season of Seinfeld coming out on DVD.
I have read some other post saying its cool for black people to say the n word and I dont think it is. I think the media is fueling this by allowing the profanity to be use uncensored on basic cable shows like Chappelle Show & The Real World. I was watching the Wire last night on BET and I thought how uncool is it that they have to bleep every other curse word but the n word is OK.
Sorry, I might be slightly off topic but everyone needs to cool out. Im not gonna speak for all black people but for myself and cats in my circle that we was starting to warm up to the show, interest is now lost. Oh Well.... do you know if any of the people in Friends are racist?

No. I still wouldn't give it a second thought to think he is a bad person. What about the pieces of you know what that called him what they did. It works both ways. Screw those low lifes that started heckling him. No love lost on heckling trash. It makes me like Richards even more knowing he stood up for himself. Americans are racists by nature and most don't even know it when they are. There are racial words for everyone and no one is left out. African Americans need to get over it. They seem to use it more than anyone and no one seems to mind. Once African Americans get over it maybe they can move forward and see it is only a word. A type of word everyone is subject to only a different flavor. Didn't the mayor of New Orleans refer to his own people as chocolate people. What a dumb___ . If any other person referred to African Americans as chocolate people you wouldn't hear the end of it. African Americans are big enough to handle a stupid word just like everyone else.

A lot of people have said and done stupid things. I didn;t see people this upset over what Mel Gibson said and did. And with Richards it was a one time outburst. Gibson has a history of anti-semitic behavior...his father is a known anti-semite....and his religious cult group are known anti-semites. He was forgiven next day. Richards screwed up...life goes on. He was getting ticked by a heckler and lost his cool. There isn't a person alive who hasn;t at some point been angry at an individual and their first thought was.....damned . Most of us feel embaressed about it and ahsamed immediately afterwards. The reality is that everyone harbors certain levels of racism...what makes a racist is acting on it, or not realizing they are bad thoughts when we have them.

i got here upon it complicated to nonetheless watch Seinfeld about 5 years in the past. heavily have not you idea about each and every episode made a minimum of 10 circumstances. enable it bypass. He made a mistake. He knew his occupation became over, and at the same time as the guy all started making comments about it (which became impolite also) He snapped. Now that's really OVER.

No, It doesn't bother me to watch him after what he said...even though it was horrible, What actors do in their personal lives do not effect me watching them on-screen...I still follow their personal lives cause I'm a tabloid junkie :) but on-screen they are just actors and if I like the character the real actor's beliefs doesn't bother me. If they did I would watch very few actors because there are so many that seem morally bankrupt...

He has apologized.

So what you're saying is that it's OK for black comedians to make fun of and put down white people but it's not OK for white people to do the exact same thing back to them?
