First of all, this is a good question.
It's like asking me if I have a difference of opinion between the Irish Americans and the Irish in the UK. However, here an up and coming movie called "God Grew Tired of Us" Which is about the difference between Black Americans and Africans here: http://movies.go.com/god-grew-tired-of-us/d759303
Nicole Kidman narrates this documentary about three African men trying to make a new life in America. After their families are evacuated from the Sudan during the country's civil war, John, Daniel and Panther are raised in Kenya's Kakuna refugee camp. When the U.S. brings the trio to the States, they work and try to acclimate to American culture all the while missing everyone they left behind.

I call Africans born in the Africa , African Continents and
Africans Born in America and the Carribbean,
African Americans and Afro-Carribbean
the reason these titlies came about related to education and senatazation of these populations to they orgins
you see for a long time 1400AD to 1980AD many African descented people in the west had no identification to any place on earth.
They were just told that they were BLACK, and left at that. BECAUSE OF THIS CLASSIFICATION , many of these people could not place them self in world history or recogniesd where they came from
the plantation system of slavery wipe of every trace of geographical orgin for black peolpe in the west ( tride) and many loss they navtive langanges, to english and spanish and french, and the reglion belief system to christianity,
the chrildren of these black slaves were then thaugh european values and norms over and over again after the slave trade was stoped in 1807 by the british and 1888 by brazil
thus about 8 generation of black people in the americans were thaugh
european value , believes and world veiw of history under the continue system of colonalism
it was through idea of Marcus Garvey,Malclom X and Rastafari
straingh on down to the civil Rights that a consciousness of black in the west made a connection to AFRICA was bought about.
FOR Many year these idea were rejected in the black communities and societies of the west, but gain recognised as peolpe began to travel and saw the commonness and identically charteratictics between the the populations of Africa and the Americas
thus the tilile African American and Afro-Caribbean Orginated to represent the present position and pass connection
The African Continentals remain on the continent and were able to retain the values and customs believes of generation gone before them
The American Africans and Afro-Carribean populations were socailised with differently by values and believes
Africans Continentals and African Americans/Carribbeans are all of the same ancestory and people
thus as are the same people as is any one who is called a canadian or American of irish , german, polish, enlgish , french
DESCENT OF EUROPEAN WHO JUST HAPPEN TO BE BORN IN THE Americas
so the titile is not racists or dividives, one must understand the orgin of the tililes and recognies to be a process of reafriaration and put one self in to the historical context things
to say you are BLACK and AND STAY WITH THAT SHOW NO GEOGRAPHICAL IDENTITY BECAUSE THERE ARE MANY OTHER BLACK RACES ON EARTH
e.g polynesian, Australia Aborigalians and dark skin Indians of southern India, sri laka and In Indo china, maylesia and indonessia

it's very confusing, I was a teen ager in the 70's and I am white, and the black people were called black, then in the 90's it went to African American, and to me that is very confusing ,if you were borned in America and your parents were American born also and had lived here all their life..why suddenly would they be African Americans, just because they had ancestors that came from there....I had ancestors from Germany and England, do i call myself white,German,English American...It's really getting to be extreme...and I can see that with all the politely correctness now..that the racism problem will never be over because the young black people, majority don't want it over....oh you can talk to some of the older more mature black men and women that are about my age and they think this issue is so silly, and they want it stopped to..maybe you should listen to wisdom...and stop trying to keep hate alive...Jessie says hope, but I think most of you mean hate, and want it

There is a difference. People think their cariacture of an African American can apply to blacks worldwide.

No matter how much you want to deny it, black americans are very different than africans. Black Americans through their own doing, and things that were done to them, have a far differnt genetic and cultural background.

Africans are extremly polite people by the way .....and I don't hear speak of all the hang ups of racism...but then again they do not have the history like black Americans of the kkk ,slavery ,,,,etc
They have experienced other advsersity but they do not linger on it and move forward

Working around Africans I notice an obvious difference. They speak better English than most Black Americans, particularly southern blacks and appear to be better educated and have more "class".
They don't have an "attitude."

I don't have a difference of opinion.
But...the Africans that have immigrated seem to be doing alright.
They are working and going to Community Colleges and doing homework in library. They seem to be quiet. They don't yell at the top of thier voice. And they ain't constantly swearing. they don't start trouble. And they don't throw thier empty malt liquor cans on the street. And they don't bum cigarettes from me.If they can keep thier kids from adopting Black American attitudes
(i.e good grades are white among others) they will be fine.
There seems to be friction between Black Americans and African immigrants.

Just my opinion but African immigrants seem nicer, more polite, have better work ethics, don't walk around with a chip off their shoulders ( although most of them have known misery we couldn't even start to imagine) and they don't blame me for their misfortunes.
Harsh, very harsh indeed but I'm just saying my opinion and nobody has to agree.
