1. Are you looking to have property too? Do you have a specific location picked out?
2. How old is the house, has it been renovated?
3. Make sure that the house fits your personal personality.
4. Are you looking to have a fix-er-up kind of house?
5. Are you a first time home-owner in the US? If so look into getting a first time home-owners' grant from the government
I hope that helps you at least a little! Good luck finding your dream home!

Only two things to think about.

Location and condition.

Location:
Have kids? School district. Also check county and state taxes. Some county's have lower taxes. Insurance rates, Do you need special insurance? Flood? Earthquake? What type of utilities will you have? Natural gas or propane? City water or well? City sewer or sewer treatment plant? Never fun to maintain your own plant. Easy access? Oh wait most important! How far away is the nearest Walmart?

Condition:
This would include size. Too big high maintenance, too small not enough space. Age? Older houses could have terra cotta plumbing, or cast iron plumbing. Could have PBC water lines or galvanized lines. Heaven forbid if it is so old it still has aluminum wiring. Might still have fuses instead of breakers.

Does this scare you? It should it could cost you a small fortune if some of these things were having problems.

I would suggest calling a Realtor to find the house for you. After all they are free to buyers! Why on earth would you want to do this on your own when a Licensed and insured professional will do it for you at no cost to you?
Your realtor will also tell you when you get an accepted offer to get a property inspector to find these possible problems for you. If any exist and some always do, your Realtor can use the inspection to get the seller to fix the problems or reduce the price of the house some more.

Hope this helps.

The answer to that is going to be varied. Are you looking to have it be your primary residence, or just an investment property. Maybe it will be a starter home and later on in life you will rent it out. If the home is going to be your primary residence for life then the things you want to consider are. 1. What kind of neighborhood is the home in. 2. Is the home going to be consistent with my future family needs. and 3. What will I have to do to keep the home modern and up to date. If it's going to be just a starter home soon to be rental I would recommend that you make sure it's in a middle class area of a city appealing to lower income and middle income families, in this situation always make sure it's at least a 3 bedroom home not a condo. make sure you can repair it quickly and as inexpensive as possible and make sure it is centrally located for easy access to what ever one needs

If you want it to be quiet, construct it using Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF). It's also better for the environment.
