I`m really scared! I bought a dwarf hamster a few hours ago and i put it in his nest but the nest is in the 2nd floor and the only way to get down to eat and drink and excersice, is to go down through the tube. My dwarf hamster Leo won`t go and i could tell he was hungry and thirsty. What should i do???Can dwarf hamsters go down tubes? And i want to tame him! HELP!!!

Ur hamster is new to the environment, thus making it scare to move around strange area.
What i can suggest is just carry ur hamster to the ground floor and cover the cage with a cloth (hamsters are night time animals).
It just need more time to adjust to its new environment. Don't rush ur hamster as it is already stressful to be in new environment.
(Try imagine that U are in unknown country and can't speak its native language =p)

The 1st website is a group of hamster owners coming together and create a interactive hamster forum. Pretty good for novice hamster owner to get information ^^

As others have said, being in a new environment will definitely make your dwarf scared or nervous at first. Going down a tube can be intimidating when they aren't even sure if you are a threat or not yet.

Definitely try to befriend your new buddy by offering him food, as this is one of the easiet ways to win over a new pet. Just pinch the food with your finger tips so that the food piece sticks out so he can easily take the food without biting you. By being able to associate you with food, you will gain his trust quickly. Then you can work on handling him.

As a side note, out of my three dwarves, only one actually SOMEWHAT enjoyed using those commercial tubes. One would avoid it if possible. And our first dwarf hamster would not climb up or down a tube no matter what! So overall in my personal experience, dwarf hamsters don't seem to be too big of fans of tubes due to the difficulty in being able to climb down.

If you need more dwarf hamster information for beginners, feel free to look at my website yourfirsthamster.com, which is aimed to help first time dwarf hamster owners. I hope this helps!

Your hamster is new to his new home. But yes dwarf hamsters do have trouble going up and down tubes (trust me I have had 2 dwarf hamsters in the past and have a hamster now(im a hamster lover)). You can allways buy another cage or move the food and water to the bottom level. Dwarf hamsters can bite hard so be careful when handleing them. They are semi easy to tame. Mine were. Good luck and hoped that helped!

relax!!!, he is nervous and scared. You just changed his environment, what you need to do is give him water, food, space, quiet, and most importantly TIME. I know you are anxious to play with your new pet, but you need to give him time to adjust. Put him in a quiet room for the night and leave him alone till noon tomorrow. Good luck! Oh and by the way, your cage setup is fine and they can go through tubes

mine love tubes......just give it some time - place his house at the bottom near the food so that he won't starve.,.... then when he will get used to the environment he will also explore the tubes..
