Well I think I am understanding now as I watch tv......there are too many groups to keep the violence going........so I guess my question doesn't matter. I just hate all the killing.....no matter who they are.

I believe that it is probably too late for this in Iraq now. The killing has already reached the point of no return.
We must remember that the hostilities between Sunnis and Shiites run long and deep. The US invasion did not cause it. All we did was allow these hostilities to come to the surface after decades of the Shiites being brutally put down by the Sunni minority.
The other thing is that each sect is receiving outside help.
The Sunnis are not only being supported by Saudi Arabia and other Sunni-Arab states, but are receiving many Arab fighters, sympathetic to Al-Qaida, who go to Iraq not only to fight the Americans, but to kill "deviant" Shiites.
The Shiites, on the other hand, receive backing from Iran, which has traditionally been the Shiite bastion in the region.
Up and until the point Iraqis get sick and tired of killing each other, they will continue to do so. I do not see a light at the end of any tunnel here.
An increase i US troops might curb some of the violence, but it will not heal any sectarian wounds.

Before the invasion there was relative peace between them.
I say relative, because it wasnt completely perfect, but NOWHERE CLOSE to what it is like now!
Also, what hasnt been mentioned is that the Christian Iraqis who lived a peaceful life under Saddam (his deputy Tariq Aziz was Catholic!) are now being persecuted also and many have had to flee the country.
I agree. The number of dead now is shocking.

For the most part they were getting along to some degree under saddams rule. We have probably made the problem in Iraq worse and all just so we can have a base to launch an attack against the mid east countrys we dont agree with...
