If you're at the top, the Real Estate market can be very lucrative, especially in a market like 2 years ago.

Unfortunately, the market is pretty bad now, and will likely stay bad through much of this year. Even then, unless you're in an area with expensive houses, you'll make a living but not get rich (again, unless you're on of the top).

To give you an idea, if a house sells for 200K, the average commission on that for either side (selling or buying agent) is about 2.5%. That's $5000 on sale, sounds good. But then the agent only gets about 60% of that. Now you're down to $3K. Do that once per month and you're grossing $36K. But because they're big hits, if you miss one month that's a big miss.

The people who sell in the luxury areas make a fortune, but it takes a LOT of work and time sacrifice to get there.

I am your neighbor in Texas and from what I hear from my investor clients it is a good market. There is a lot of buying and selling due to the recent hurricanes and I hear proeprties are really moving. I am a 5 year real estate broker and I love the business! My first few years were bad but once everything clicked it just took off and life has been good ever since. We have roughly 7700 agents in my part of central Texas so the competition is tough but if you are dedicated and care about your clients you will do well. Take a basic course and see if you like it. I recommend taking your first class in person but if you like it and understand then do the others online.

What do you want to do in real estate.

#1 Sell real estate?

#2 Make a portfolio of buying real estate?

#3 Why are you taking real estate courses and what do you plan to take?

Depending on what you want to do and the route you want to take real estate is a good business to be in. Yes you can make lots of money in the real estate field.

You have to decide what phase of the career field you want to specialize in.

I hope this has been of some use to you, good luck.

Location, location, location. Three things to remember. Also, do your homework and research. It might help to get your real estate license in the state you plan to invest/buy. There are lots of people out there all too happy to take your money with promises of a fast buck. Be cautious. Knowledge is power. Good luck.

Right now as the market crashes the two people that are making money are. the people who put the signs up in the Yard. And the people who spin the signs on a corner that are a big arrow pointing to an open house.
