It's not common in RPG games to have a main character not human/human like but an animal or dragon. But fighting dragons is pretty common

Final Fantasy VII: Red XIII, Cait Sith for example..

But for games where you can play dragons there's sypro and an playstation game called Legend of Dragoon where your characters could transform into dragoons (dragon-like).

Games with dragons: Legend of Drakan: The Ancients Gate; Drakengard I and II.

It is to much to make a dragon as a character because of their natural size and it would seem a little odd being a human sized dragon dont you think.

In order to make a good 3rd person detail, a good dragon would take too much memory/time to create with out any bugs, and most people would rather fight a dragon than be one. If you want to play as a dragon play Spyro.

You can do more with a human or something with hands in games.

How many games do you see dragons carying swords, wands, or bows?
