First off, definitely get to the doctor ASAP. You should definitely find out why you haven't had a period. Usually, the lack of a period means you haven't Ovulated, so therefore you can't get pregnant, tough there is still a chance you may ovulate in the future, before a period, so you could conceive then. The 5 months without a period concerns me though, have you recently stopped birth control, because that could be the cause of it. But, if there are no other reasons you can think of, then DEFINITELY get it checked out. The longer you leave it, the worse it can get, and the harder it will be to conceive.

Missed periods...is this normal for you or is this the first time? More than likely, you will not be able to get pregnant because you're not ovulating. Your GYN might put you on a BC pill to start you ovulating. Once that's established then they'll take you off and see if you'll be able to ovulate on your own. If you can then great! Try to get pregnant.
If you don't, then they'll do blood work and try to figure out why you're not having periods.
What kind of BC were you on (if anything)? Depo Provera (the shot) can take up to 2 yrs to get out of your system. Other forms can mess with your periods as well.
Do you have much body fat? Women that don't, oftentimes have missed periods.
I've worked in Women's Health Clinics for several years in my career although I'm not a provider. I've listened to my providers with your same question. There's just so much information needed before someone on Yahoo Answers can help you with. See your provider (you should be doing that annually anyways).
Take care and good luck to you!

First I would go to the doctor. Chances are if you are not having your period then you may not be ovulating. Not having a period for that long is serious. Talk to your doctor so that you can get back on track and have regular periods and then ttc. Good Luck!!

I use to have my periods 7 to 8 months apart and I didn't think I could conceive. I am currently 9 months and counting... so yes it's possible. Please go to the doctor and get your yearly exam and have them do as many test and workup as possible to make sure your womb is healthy before trying to conceive. They can do tests to make sure you have eggs to fertilize and so forth.
Good Luck!!!!!!!!

The 1st thing you need to do is find out why you don't get your period . That's not normal and can be a telltale sign of a lot of things.

i think you should consider hormonal treatment first to get your period constantly, but i think that if you havent had your period, the chances to get pregnant are minimun.
