All old flats built 20 - 35 years ago are normally bigger. Example a 4 room flat built 20 years ago will have about the same square feet of 5 room flat built today. Beside that, the space between building is also bigger compare to the new estate. In short, the same square feet of land now is build with more blocks and more units in one block.

One reason is Singapore land is limited, the second reason probably is due to economics reason.

That question holds true for anywhere, not just Singapore. Economics is the first, foremost, and really only reason. The land is worth more than the building that sits on it so you buy the land and tear down the building to build something that is worth even more. It doesn't matter if the building was still in good condition. If it doesn't meet the requirements of the property owners then they will tear it down and build something that does.

Most people invest in real estate for profit not to preserve.

It is less of a reason to boost economy than a need for space. Singapore is a very small country with limited land mass. Instead of destroying more green space, it is more practical to take down older buildings to rebuild - yes, smaller units, but more importantly, taller buildings and hence increasing the density per square mile.

Also, Singapore as a country is very keen about cleanliness and the aesthetics of the buildings. In the tropics, buildings don't "wear" as well due to heat and humidity. Hence, buildings are torn down and rebuilt more often than in North America and other European countries with more temperate climates.

Because they don't care about the environment and global warming.

In North America, we're always talking about green buildings and restoration. It is sad to know that Singapore is not doing it's part to prevent global warming. Their government don't care about other people as reflected by the personalities of ordinary Singaporean.
