i have a little strainer that's just a bunch of criss-crossed wires, and i strained some pasta in it only to find that some pieces are stuck in it pretty well, and they've dried. do you have a simple trick that i can use to clean it and make sure this doesn't happen again? or must i resort to desperately scrubbing and picking at my sieve? any help is appreciated!

Cold water dissolves starch. Soak it first, now that it is dried and hardened. Then, depending on how bad it is, it may clean easily with a sponge or if it's still bad, but softened, I would use a toothbrush.I have found that sometimes a toothbrush works better than anything else. In future, either rise your sieve out immediately from the wrong side with cold water or get a colander. with a colander, you can run cold water through before you drain the pasta. I find that helps it helps keep the pasta from sticking and gets it clean easily.

Soak in hot water then use the sprayer on it the opposite way you used it. Always works for me.

soak it in water overnight and then use a toothpick to push the pieces out of the mesh.
