I am due to have a baby on the 9th March 07 This is according to my doctor and everytime I go for a visit he says your 28 weeks pregnant or your 30 weeks pregnant when according to his dates wouldn't I be 32 and 5 days pregnant? I have a medical condition and have to have surgery done during pregnancy and it should be done at about 36 weeks pregnant. I worry that as he doesn't follow track we won't really know what stage I am with procedure gets done. I'm being seen privately and he's the head gyno doctor for the hospital so supose to be the best there is available but he seems quite care free. Any sugestions?

Don't worry. His care free attitude and his calculations have nothing to due with the other. When I was pregnant I was often confused by the dates. Everytime I went in to see the Dr, I was told I was so many weeks along when I calculated something else. But we both came to the same due date! Remember that according to our calendar, women are pregnant for nine months. In pregnant time (gestational), we are pregnant for ten months. While you are using the calendar, your Dr is using gestational time. Which means that you would calculate being further along then he would. Talk to him and explain how you are coming to your calculations and tell him you are worried and stressed over it. If he is concerned for you (as he should be) he should take a few minutes to explain the difference and ally your fears.

And don't take offense to his care free attitude. He is probably trying not to appear worried so you won't get scared, but it's coming across as care free and might be making you uncomfortable instead. Remember that he's the head of his department for a reason and you would do better in his care. Talk to him.

The first month of pregnancy is not considered a MONTH its only considered weeks. If you had an ultrasound early in pregnancy meaning the first trimester the childs gestational age was noted and will be correct. If you feel that your dr is not giving you the care you need go to another dr.

if ur due 9 mar, then that's 40 weeks complete. 36 weeks would be 4 weeks before that around 9 feb, so then that's when u should expect the op.

if your due date is REALLY march 9th of this year then you are 31 weeks 5 days.

I would ask him about it and have him check again, what he thinks your due date is.

if your still not satisfied get a second opinion from another dr.

Try to do USG test, by doing so, you and your doctor will sure about the age of your baby by its size and shape. Try to get second opinion from another doctor, it's usefull to know more about your condition for sure. A doctor only a human being isn't he, so nobody's perfect, try to broaden your horizon by seeing another doctor.

You're nitpicking. Relax, and enjoy the journey. And leave the driving up to your doctor.
