He has the potential, but not right now. If we're going on who has the best career, it's Sakic. He has a lot going for him, and has been talented for a long time. But the best player with their current talents is Joe Thornton. Last year's Art Ross Trophy winner for being the leading scorer and the winner of the Hart Memorial for being the MVP of the league, he is the definition of the complete player in the NHL. This is the kind of player that Crosby and Ovechkin should be striving to be. He feeds the goal scorers like it's going out of style nothching 72 assists. On top of that, he has the ability to score from anywhere, although this isn't the core of his game. And to top it all off, he is a born leader. This is why Joe Thornton is THE best player in the NHL.

He is the best in the NHL right now. As for what Andy said all of the big name players get away with a lot of calls. There is one big name player on every team that gets away with more then the average player. Just watch any game against two teams you don't watch on average. You will see the big star names get away with a lot. Crosby plays his best every shift and if he does get away with something it surely makes up for something that should have been called against him earlier in the game. I been to a lot of Penguins games and Crosby gets a lot of penalties against him that isn't called and he doesn't go yell at the referee's like he did last year. He comes out on the next shift and makes plays that make you go holy **** did he just really do that. He is the best look at all his stats and you will see that.

NO WAY. Sidney Crosby is a little punk. he dives all the time and draws the most BS penalties in the league. ovechkin is way better. stupid little Sid is becoming the new Gretzky. if you touch him= 2.00 in the box, shove him 4.00 in the box, give him a clean hard hit either band from NHL or suspended for a certain amount of games

I'd say Crosby is on of the best but not The best there are players that have already paid their Doe's Likes Shanahan, Sackic and Madono. Give Crosby another 5 years and then ask the same question and I mite say Yes

Hard to call Sid the best in the league. Ovechkin won the Caulder Trophy last year and there are other things to consider...leadership, ability to create plays, versatility. Its more than just goals. Shanahan is great for his leadership, Richards is great for this sportsmanship, Kolzig is great for his net abilites and community activism. Sakic, Thorton, Dipietro, Modano, Ward, Brind' Amor. You Pick!

I think that he's really good but I don't want to label him as the "best" He's still so new to the NHL. For me, I'm going to need to see consistency over a few year span before I say that about him. We see players that have a great year or two or three and then for whatever reason they loose their touch. Maybe its just me but I think he has a bit more "proving himself left to do.

You cannot label him as the best player in the NHL for several reasons
1. He has not played long enough
2. there are other players the same age as him that are better...OVECHKIN

He is exciting to watch but the best player in the NHL is Martin Broduer. He also plays the most important position.

Yes He currently Is, his stats say he is, so does his play on the ice he skates circles around everyone he is riddled with skill, he plays physical, he CAN backcheck and help out the defense he has some of the best moves in hockey and hes only 19. He leads the NHL in scoring, there is no reason to think he is not the best player in the NHL.
