Mac Blot powder is the best--for pressed powder. It's really finely milled & keeps oil @ bay for a surprisingly long time. I like Mac Lustre formula lipsticks, they go on smooth & feel more like chapstick than lipstick. They smell like yummy vanilla to boot. OK now I sound like a Mac advertisement. There's no best cosmetic brand out there, even though I sing the praises for Mac on those two types of products, they have some sucky products just like any other line. Just experiment & make sure you can return the products no matter where you buy them if you don't like them or they don't suit you.

It absolutely depends on what you're looking for. I have clear, fair skin and dark hair. I like MAC and Estee Lauder because they're good products that accentuate my looks. MAC, I only get in the store, but I often get the Estee Lauder on online auctions - when people buy something expensive, they get free stuff that they resell new and unused. (Go with a seller with a good rating, for cosmetics!! - you don't want used lipstick. EWW. For a new lipstick, with shipping, I pay about $5. MAC, on auction, usually exceeds the price in the store, for some reason.)
For work, I use Revlon - lasts long, not too expensive on sale or at a discount cosmetics store (make sure the seal is intact!), and a wide range of colors. (Much as I love MAC, I can't afford to use a $17 lipstick every day. When I started buying it, it was $8!!)
My mom, who's older (obviously) with grey hair, has to use cosmetics designed for seniors.
Avoid cheap lipstics like Wet N Wild - they look great for a little while, but I've never known anyone to use them who hasn't has her lips peel - not attractive!! However, makeup doesn't have to be expensive to look good. Christian Dior makes a lovely lipstick for $23.50; I don't think that it's four times as good as what I got at the makeup store even if it's quadruple the price.

Bare Minerals is great for things like their powder foundation and bronzers (anything that goes all over a lot of skin). I would say that MAC probably has the best variety of colors, however I've tried their Lipglass and Lustreglass and both make my lips hurt after about half an hour. If you want a lipstick that feels good, Clinique is great.
EDIT: Oh, and Nars' "Orgasm" blush is AMAZING! Best blush ever! I wish I'd bought it years ago!

Mary Kay is the best they offer four different looks which they call 101 looks. They are casual cool, simply intriguing, modern mix and pure glamour. I use the cool for when i want to look sophisticated the simply intriguing for i want to feel romantic and the pure glamour for when i feel like a star. As for powder go with dreamy cream -to-powder foundation it glides on like a cream to hide imperfections, then dries to a powdery finish. And as for lipsticks go with gloss and glo or a kiss of color my favorite. Be sure to check out the line and define lipliners and their eye shadows. Hope this helps you.

not sure what you mean by face powder. so i will answer both possible products. two in one powder i like laura mercier or aveda. aveda is made with as many natural products as possible. laura mercier is the flawless skin brand and their products are great. as a loose powder, i recommend chantecaille for the colour powder and laura mercier for the translucent powder. they are both very finely milled and give a flawless look.
as per lipstick, it depends on the colour and what you want. mac has great lipsticks and the colours have great pigments but they can be drying. l'oreal also has great pigments too....meaning what you see is what you get. my personal favs are chanel as they are moisturizing and elegant colours, bobbi brown and stila for lip gloss lip gloss, and my ultimate fav is nars dolce vita. you can find a great colour in any price range....l'oreal and revlon have great colours.

It really depends on you. I like MAC lip glosses, eye shadows and blush since its high quality and long lasting. But for my mascara i prefer LANCOME. And for the foundation MAC didn't suit me but i really like GUERLAIN. Its a bit pricey but its proven to be the best for my skin. Plus, if you check out SEPHORA cosmetic products they have good make up and its not expensive. I like their lip gloss.

Right now..Bare Minerals is the best makeup line out there. It is great for the skin, doesn't aggrivate or cause break outs, and the coverage is great. Also, looks great and natural.

Go with Mary Kay, it even has age-fighting to help you stay young looking. MAC is a runway make-up. It was not created for everyday use.
