Kakarot is the Sayain birth name of Goku in Dragon Ball Z.

Kakarot is simple Goku's original given name.
But when he was sent to earth and found by Son Gohan, Son Gohan named Kakarot Goku. So, Kakarot just had his named changed to Goku. The only person who calls him Kakarot is Vegeta THE PRINCE OF ALL SAYIANS. Goku simple contiunes to go by Goku becuase he is proud of his earth heritage more so than his Saiyan one.

Kakarot isn't anyone's alterego. That's just...Goku. It's his birth name, although he prefers to go by Goku because he doesn't consider himself a Saiyan.
Only one person calls him Kakarot.
