I have 2 years experience in my field, but I was recently started at a new company 4 months ago. For my annual evaulation (this month), should I bring up the fact that I would like to move over to a new department if a position opens up or should I stay quiet about it until later on this year? I will complete one year in this position, but I really want to prep myself for the new position.

If moving to this other dept is a step up from where you are now I would bring it up in your performance eval. It shows that you are committed to the company and you are looking for advancement. If its a lateral move you may want to just keep it to yourself for now.

Either before or after the evaluation. Let them know that you would like to transfer and ask what things you would need to do in order to fulfill the needs of that new role. If your boss knows you mean business they won't hold that against you for wanting to move up, or learn something more.

I would totally express interest in moving up-that is never a bad thing. Do your current position as well as you can and prove that your worthy of promotion. But don't wait-let them know you are interested so they can keep you in mind.

are you moving UP or simply moving OVER? Prepare to tell the boss why you would want to move to a different position. Tell him or her that you think you would be more benificial in that position and see what they say.
