I have windows XP and a CTL flatscreen monitor. I have recently re-installed windows xp due to an unforuntate crash over holiday break. But I noticed there is no sound at all. Whether I play something on windows media or go to youtube...anything that should have a sound DOES NOT. i have gone through ALL the "sound troubleshoot" steps, twice now. I still have NO sound. My dad says I should buy a pair of speakers to see if that works (currently the speakers i DO have are IN my monitor) as an alternate way to hear audio. But would that work? If i dont have any sound NO MATTER what I do, why would a pair of speakers work? Did I plug the monitor into the wrong slot on my motherboard?(it says LCD next to it??) Does anyone have any helpful suggestions? I appreciate any and all help I really do. Thanks for your trouble...I truly hate being computer illiterate. I'm not even illiterate I'm just a plain BLACK HOLE of computer awareness. Alright, big thanks for your time in advanced! ;)

First of all try plugging the cord from your monitor into different sockets in the back of your sound card and try that. If that doesn't work then I would check for drivers for your sound card; go to your system information and look up the type of sound card you have and download the drivers for it at the manufacturer's website. If that doesn't work then I'd either get a real set of speakers and try that or replace the sound card.

First... check if there's an icon speaker apper on your screen right buttom? If there is then double click it and check if master volume is muted... if it does then uncheck it

2nd... If icon speaker doesn't appear bottom right of your screen then you have to install driver of your sounds... usually audio are built in device in the CPU, check if you have a CD driver of your motherboard and run it then installed driver of your sound.

Hope this helps...
