"More Today Than Yesterday" was by a one-hit-wonder band named Spiral Starecase (yes, they intentionally misspelled "staircase").
Great song. And it took me a damn long time to find out who it was a few years back. Spiral Starecase CDs are a little hard to come by, but I know it's also on the soundtrack to the movie "My Girl", and a few "#1 hits of 1969" compilations.
Actually, come to think of it, some other bands have covered the song over the years, like Goldfinger. Though I'm assuming the one you heard was the original.
