Ok now this isn't some joke question. I have a friend in high school and apparently she told people today that she's been pregnant for a while after she took a test today. She's told us before that menstrual cycle is weird and said that she doesn't get her period very often. It's like months at a time she says, that's why she never suspected it I guess.

But anyways, I'm not even sure if she's just kidding and trying to play a joke on the school or something because I haven't called her yet, but I was wondering, how long can you be pregnant until they won't allow you to have an abortion? I know that if it is true her mom would not react well and they probably wouldn't get along well after that, but yeah can anyone tell me?

The *availability* of a legal termination of pregnancy varies from state to state but generally speaking, an elective termination (one sought by a woman for personal, not health-related reasons) can be obtained in some places as late as 25 weeks into the pregnancy. (A pregnancy lasts roughly 40 weeks.) Of course, the later into the pregnancy, the more complicated and risky the procedure becomes and the more difficult and costly it is to obtain.

In some states, you could get an abortion in the 1/3 trimester. Most states, it can be as much as 12 weeks. I accidently called an abortion health center and requested for an appointment, and they told me the approach would rate $375 and it's a in the future process. That is after I realized who I had called. Lol. You must more often than not look up on how an abortion is done. I have heard it is finished a couple of one of a kind ways. Some ladies are put to sleep, some are up. You just have to google it.

Depending on the state 22-24 weeks is the latest she can have an abortion. The reason for that is that it medical science has made it so that preemies born at 24 weeks CAN be viable. Years ago it was unheard of for a fetus at 24 weeks to survive outside the womb. Now they can and since it is possible for a fetus to survive outside the womb at 24 the fedral law has determined 24 weeks to be the "cut off" point. If ANYONE in any of the 50 US states has had an abortion or performed one past 24 weeks they did so against the law and should be reported.

It depends on which country you reside, if in the USA or Canada it could well be determined by individual State or Provincial Laws. For UK its 24 weeks.

Generally, an abortion should be carried out as early in the pregnancy as possible (ideally, before 12 weeks) when it is easier and safer. However, you must be given enough time to consider all your options so you are as comfortable as possible with your decision.

Realistically the whole situation should be discussed with a medical doctor, and if at all possible with her parents involved as well. So they can be given the opportunity to give appropriate advice and support throughout the situation.

Well if she just took the test today then theres no way she could have "not known" for a long time without going to the doctor first. I think the latest is like 25 weeks...and thats pretty far long but i dont recomend it. Matter of fact i dont recommend abortion at all but thats just my opinion.

Depends on the laws where you live, policy of the clinic and your own ethics. General rule of thumb, first trimester only. There are places that allow more, legal or not, but for myself, if anything drastically BEYOND a normal D&C is required... its a bit to much for me. But it is the only choice for some women...
