Hooked up my washer in new home and connected hose to the drain which is at the bottom of the wall and from that up runs a 2" pvc pipe. Everything looked good and was until it went to drain and water shot out the pipe. Is it clogged or is there a valve that hasnt been opened?

it is probably clogged
drains do not usually have valves, there is no reason for them

if it is shooting out then is the pipe broken? if you had said it was overflowing then I would say blocked

dont worry, PVC is incredibly easy to fix.
cut off the broken piece and take it to your freindly neighborhood hardware store. they will sell you replacement pipe or fittings
the only thing else you need is perhaps a hacksaw to cut pipe, scrap of sandpaper, and a small (4oz?) can of pvc glue.
then dry fit the pieces together to make sure they fit, put on some glue and put them back together.

it should only cost you about $4.00 for everything

This piping arrangement doesn't sound correct. Typically you would hook the washer into the drain pipe at a level close to the height of the washer, say 3-4 feet above the floor. Did someone add a second connection point to that line for some reason? If it were a vent for the washer drain, it should extend to above your roof line. You would never vent a sewage line inside your house. I'd call a plumber to look at it.

The top of your drain pipe needs to be at least as high as the top of your washer or the water will overflow it. It may be clogged also, they make an attachment that goes onto the end of a garden hose that when you attach it and push it down the pipe and turn the water on the hose the attachment expands to block the pipe and it forces the clog down the drain. A snake may work for you also.

Drains don't usually have valves on them, and I dont think ive ever seen one on a washer drain. Washer drains arent on the bottom of wall they usually are aroud 4 -5 feet from the ground. Something does not sound right.

Either clogged or inadequate. Washers dump at about 10 gallons/minute and a 3inch stand pipe is normal. A 2 inch pipe is ok if there is no obstruction or trap.

Washers generally drain into a sump pump hole. Is there another pipe nearby maybe you have it in the wrong hole? that or there could have been a pump attached to run that water to your dry well and the person that lived there before took the pump with them. Dirty trick if he did. Good Luck

Should'nt be a valve on it. Sounds like its plugged and water is coming out the vent.

either plugged or your vent is stopped up. it's on the roof.
