Yes you still do. You can go to every two years if a doctor says it's ok. The reason being that you can still develop cancerous cells on the uterine wall which we all have after a hysterectomy. It is rare but still can happen. Also to have breast exams and orders for mammograms. It is still very important to keep this up. Maybe not every year but at least every other year depending on the reason for the hysterectomy. If it is due to cancer then definetly still every year.

Most often hysterectomy means uterus and cervix are removed in which case a pap smear serves no purpose. A pap smear consists of taking tissue from the cervix and if it's not there..can't be done. However if you still have a cervix...highly unlikely(ask your doctor) than yes a pap smear is still a valuable procedure.

dear andrew(?) yes you do have to have a smear test after a hysterectomy. It goes under a different name I believe, because it only involves the cervix; but is certainly necessary. I myself had a hyster in 1997, and still have regular 2 year smear tests.

although you had a hysterectomy you could have a STI or an abnormality that demands to be checked out. If it used to be advised by means of a healthcare professional after telling them you had a hysterectomy then i might get one.

yes, because when they remove the uterus, they have to suture the skin together at the end of the vagina...and some of that skin could be part of the cervical os that remains...that is the tissue that can become cancerous...so it would be advisable to have a pap done for your safety.
a vaginal or abdominal hysterectomy has the same problem...

Are you a boy?

If you have a cervix, you need a pap smear. The HPV virus is rampant and it is he only way to catch it early.
