You've really touched on an interesting subject. I think I can offer you some insight.

For Americans it's quite 'fashionable' to hate our leaders. We have very little respect for them referring to them as idiots in charge. So why is this? Perhaps it's the pot calling the kettle black? I think not.

A better explanation probably comes down to work ethic. Americans are probably the hardest working people I've ever seen and I've been around the world (literally). We see politics and politicians getting rich with little or no effort. We see them lie cheat and steal their way to the top. Should we respect that type of behavior?

When traveling outside of the U.S. the people I meet are always quite shocked at how I refer to the current administration. They tell me "He's your president!" and I quip back with: "Yeah, but he's still an idiot."

I hope I've given you something to chew on.....

Your premise is historically inaccurate. People who voted for FDR, Truman, Eisenhower, and Kennedy did not regret their votes. Eisenhower's popularity did not change, while the others increased. Johnson incurred the wrath of the people not only because of his handling of the Vietnam War but also because of the "boll weevil" Democrats of the South who greatly opposed Civil Rights legislation. Also, his War on Poverty and Urban Renewal programs were disastrous. Nixon incurred the people's wrath because he was supposed to be a "law and order" President who would end the war. Instead, his own ambition drove him to sleazy behavior and lawlessness and the war dragged on until 1975, when Ford was President. Jimmy Carter was elected because of his clean image but people disliked him for his incompetency. Ronald Reagan was much beloved by blue collar folk and the people who hated him at the end, didn't much like him in the first place. Bush 41 ran a dirty, sleazy campaign against Dukakis and the economy soured and public sentiment at the time was that Saddam Hussein should have been captured and executed for the invasion of Kuwait. If people who voted for Clinton ended up hating him it was because of right-wing smear tactics that were relentless throughout his 8 years in office. The media was as much to blame as the President. As far as Bush goes, he was never qualified to be President and his administration, racked with costly errors and the air of mendacity, have divided and not united this country as he promised. If the President is qualified and behaves humbly, intelligently and honorably, the people will approve of him as much when he leaves office as when they voted for him

the longer the presidents stay in office, the higher the chance of them making bad judgement in leading the country that will displease the public. For ex. i just saw an article on Bush saying that he admitted his error w/ sending troops to Iraq.

I think most of the people dislike their president after electing him. because he doesn't stand up to the promises he made during his campaign.

Because many presidents lie about what they will do when they are elected into office.
