Hello, I've had a bruise in the shape of a long, narrow, two-prongred fork running down more than half the length of my left shin. It's been there for AT LEAST a month and a half and doesn't show signs of dissipating. What is happening? Is it dangerous?

I'm quite certain it's not a varicose vein, it is distinctly the color of an old bruise, the affected area is not raised, nor painful. The mark is just slightly too wide for it to be any kind of vein.

As for being diabetic...well most of my other scrapes heal quickly, as is normal for a person my age

Do you know if you bumped your leg into something or something fell on that part of your leg? Does your family have a history of clotting disorders? Blood clots or hemophilia? Easy bruising that takes months to dissipate is the sign of several diseases and should be checked out. It could be dangerous if it has anything to do with clotting abilities. I had a "bruise" after falling through a deck that took 3 months to heal....I ended up having serious underlying tissue damage and a year later it is still tender in that area. Get it checked ASAP

Is it bruising, or is it a vericose vein? Since it travels down most of your leg, and is forked, and been there for a month, it doesn't really sound like a bruise. Do you know what caused the discoloration to begin with?

If you're certain that it's a bruise, are you diabetic or been tested for diabetes yet? Usually people with diabetes take longer to heal, so that's why I'm asking.

A good website to go to is www.webmd.com They have a lot of resources, including symptom checker, medical updates, chat rooms, and forums to post questions. Good luck!!

I had a diabetic friend who had a bruise she ignored on her leg. She didn't go to the doctor until it had streaks of red in it, which was too late and she had it amputated.
