I just found out very recently that I am pregnant. This is the first time so I actually have a lot of questions, this being the main one. I have heard different things, so I want to know what's really what. I haven't been able to go to the doctor yet and I'm really nervous. Help?

hi-what exactly do you want to know about?

the 'what to expect' books series is awesome for any questions you may have--you can even see if your local library has it if you dont want to go and buy it.

Basiclly, if it's not good for you before you pregnant, it's not now. Smoking, drinking, drugs, and too much caffine should all be avoided. Any medications you are taking should be checked (read the box or instructions) to see if there are any risks to the baby, if so, call a doctor before you stop taking them. Chose tylenol over advil or asprin, tums over peptobismol, and get plenty of rest. :) You'll be fine, just look in the phone book and find an ob-gyn and make an appointment, they'll want to prescribe you prenatal vitamns right away (until then, my doctor said to take flinstones vitamins). Congrats!

Congratulations. During my first pregnancy, I had a lot of questions too...you'll probably think of two a day until delivery. Please take my advice and spend 10-15 dollars on the book "What To Expect When You're Expecting" This book is awesome and WILL answer every question you have with accuracy. It shows pictures of the baby during each month inside the womb, and tells what is going on with him/her and you. It also, as I said, answers just about every question you will have. I called it my pregnancy bible. I think it even goes up (answers questions) until your child is one and a half. Then they have a book What To Expect The Toddler Years...which I also have. I am 4 1/2 months pregnant with my 2nd, and I still have questions...the book would be useful to you for a long time, I guarantee. I can't really answer what is good/bad for you during pregnancy because a lot of things are (the book would answer this question in detail) PLEASE GET IT!! :) Good luck.

It is great that you are concerned with this. Until you can meet with a doctor, go to Babyzone.com or babycenter.com to get immediate answers to most all questions. A great book for a month-by-month guide is What to Expect When You Are Expecting. If you drink or smoke, stop. And start prenatal pills ASAP. Don't take any other meds until you have confirmed that it is not harmful to the baby. You can find out on the websites above. And Congrats!!!

I had a doctor who told me everything is ok in moderation(meaning foods). Smoking, drugs, alcohol should stop right now. But soda, cut back to once or twice a week. Sugar foods cut back on. Increase your veggies and fruits. Drink lots of water and milk. Until you can get to a doctor take Flinstones vitamins(I had to take these because prenatal vitamins made me sick). The person who said any medication and advil/asprin is right. Regular strength tylenol is it. But make a doctors appointment ASAP. There is tons of blood work that needs to be done. Good luck!

No alcohol or drugs/medications until you talk to doc. Eat healthy and drink plenty of water. Exercise as you are or go moderate. Avoid stress if possible. Basically take the best care of you and you both will do fine. The docs will give you vitamins. Iron and folic acid are very important. You will need extra sleep in your first the last trimester. Good Luck and God Bless.

Obviously, no smoking, no drinking, no taking of any type of drugs (either legal or illegal). Eat right, get lots of rest and see a doctor as soon as you are able. Don't be nervous. Remember, thousands of women give birth every day and get through it just fine, I am sure you will be the same.

you should eat a lot of fruits and veggies and drinks plenty of water...try to avoid fried foods and certain fish fish has mercury in it which isn't very good for the baby, you can have fish once i n a while but not too much....if you want tea drink decaf tea caffeine isn't good for you right now.....don't get too lazy and don';t eat too much because you don't wanna gain too much weight because it's not that easy to get off.....good luck
