In the mid 50's (1955) I remember we went on a trip and Dad filled his car with 15 cents per gallon gasoline. The old gas pump was one of the new fangled powered pumps with the sight glass where you could watch the gasoline make the little vanes move as it flowed through. I remeber the smell of the gasoline was much stronger then and it had enough tetraethyl lead in it to make it have a pronounced reddish color. My Dad drove a 1955 Ford Fairlane 500 2 door sedan with a 232 V-8 and three on the tree. Good memories for me - thanks for asking!

I remember 99 cents a gallon in 1989 just before I moved to Minnesota at the Meijer on Carpenter Rd in Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area.
It is $2.09 a gallon in my town at present.

No joke, but 33 cents a gallon back when I was just starting to drive (late 60's). I remember because I could buy 3 gallons for a dollar -- which was enough to get me back and forth to high school each week (no side trips, tho!).
