That's a good question. Unfortunately you will not really find an original version due to the age of the Bible. All Bibles are basically the same though, they may have slightly different wording and interpretations but all are equally beneficial. If you are new in your walk with God though I would recommend you either using the Living Bible Translation or the New International Version. I think the New International Version is the one used by most churches but the Living Bible is also quite easy reading as it is written in modern, easy to understand language. If you are not into old English then I would suggest not getting the King James version as it is written using "Thee's" and "Thou's". I hope this has helped. If you are looking for accuracy to the original I think generally the New International Version (also shortened to NIV) is considered the most accurate. If you are doing in depth study then the Amplified can also be good for analyzing the different meanings of words in the Bible but it can be distracting if you are just generally wanting to read it to draw closer to God. I also recommend you join a local church if you do not already belong to one and speak to your pastor about your desire to draw closer to God so that he can guide you further.

Some of the answers people have posted are a bit off. The bible consists of two books, the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament is the story of God's relationship with the Jews. Jesus was a Jew, but he preached that you no longer had to be a Jew to be God's chosen; anyone who gave up the things of the world and followed Jesus' example of meeting hate with love and sacrificing his own comfort to help others would find salvation.
So to Christians, the Old Testament is an outdated message from God and the New Testament is the current promise from God to mankind.
However, the New Testament wasn't put together until about 300 years until after Jesus and his disciples died. There were many texts at that point written by the disciples, but a group of powerful men at the time who wanted to put together an authoritative text for the church met and decided which texts to include.
At that point, the text existed in Latin and there was only one form of church: Catholic.
Protestantism (which has now branched into numerous sub-faiths, including Baptist, Lutheran, Evangelical, Pentecostal, and many others) was born 1100 years later in Germany. Where Catholics believed only a priest could convey God's word, Protestants believed every man or woman could talk to God directly and that they should be able to read the bible themselves. So the first non-Latin bible was published--in German.
Various translations followed, but King James of England demanded there be an authoritative version in the English language, so he paid for a translation that's now called the King James version. That was 400 years ago, though, so the language is hard for us to interpret today. Since the whole idea of the non-Latin bible was to allow regular people to read the word of God without needed someone to translate and interpret for them, various modern Christian groups have published translations in modern English, but they argue a bit among themselves over which translation's the most accurate.
So, if you're looking for the real thing, all you need is a copy of the New Testament that you can understand on your own. The differences between most modern translations aren't really that significant if you're reading it for the first time. They only really make a difference when preachers try to break down specific passages and read further interpretation into them.
You can read a number of different versions online here:
http://www.bibles.net/
Any bookstore that's halfway decent will have at least one or two version of the New Testament in stock. And several folks will give you a free New Testament if you ask:
www.biblesforamerica.org
freebibleministry.com
Or call a couple of local churches from your phone book and see if they have copies.
Just one personal note from me: So much of bible reading today is about picking apart the words to see what God really means. But if God intended his word to be for even the most simple of us, that shouldn't be necessary. The spirit of what the New Testament says is very clear to read. It doesn't say anything about spending your Sunday's in church or going to bible study or that you fix things by praying. It tells you to give up the things of the world and go out and do good.

Any copy is not going to be the original version. They are all different translations from the original documents. The original books of the bible were written in Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic. If all you can read is English, you'll have to pick one of the many translations that are out there. Examples: NIV, New American Standard, King James, etc.

hi, first of all its awesome to see you want to get closer to god and are searching desparetly for bible. it depends what you mean by the 'original bible' the kings james is close in english but hard to understand i think. i reackon the NIV, new international version is good, easy to understand and isnt taken to far away from the hebrew translation. If you have a pastor ask them or someone from church or a christian mate who has been a christian a while to go with you to a christian book store. And pray that that one you get will help. But at the end of the day any bible will be great cos its Gods words. Also get a hebrew, greek translation book that will help understand exacly what God ment in the bible.hope you find one. God bless you

"The Original One", you have a lot to learn my friend. There are many versions, because there are many beliefs. There is the Catholic Bible, it has some extra books in it that the St James' version does not have. There is the Morman version, they have John Smith as a prophet. Basically they all start the same, it depends on what you want to believe. Now if by original you want the "thees and thous" in it, it makes for much more difficult reading, you may have to go to a thrift store and look through their used books section. But the other person is right, a hotel, book store, church. etc.

They may be titled differenly, or look differently on the outside but most bibles are the same, unless you go to a different religion. Just make sure it has the Old Testament and New Testament, If your reading the bible for the first time i suggest you get a teen version, such as a teen study bible. Check out biblesbythcase.com
If your referring to the different versions, they are the same, they just change the language a little bit for each version to make it easier to understand. The NIV version is the best.

King James version is the oldest version in English. Be aware that the bible underwent several revisions before it ever even got to that stage. In addition to reading the bible, you should check out what we are finding out about the revisions that have been made. Also, read carefully. Don't just pick a few things to quote that support your actions or beliefs. I recommend Bart D. Ehrman's "Misquoting Jesus."
