LA, Santa Clarita, Tehachapi, Arvin, Shafter, Wasco, Taft, Maricopa, California City ... depends how far away you want to go.

Best solution to select a place to stay is to use the map link below then add a search for hotel, motel, bed&breakfast places ... then keep zooming out until you find your price range.

We are it baby!!! Just Kidding. Bakersfield is the largest city in the county and pretty much in the middle. If you don't mind the drive, Kernville an hour north east on 178 in the southern Sierras is nice. Don't worry, it's only at about 3,000 ft. so they don't get much snow (only about once or twice a year). But if you're coming to see a friend, I recommend you stay in Bakersfield. There are quite a few nice hotels here. My favorite is the Best Western Crystal Place. They are right next store to the Crystal Palace the Buck Owens founded. The restaurant is great and if you're here during the right time you may even be able to catch a show. It's a great venue, it's small so you don't feel lost in a crowd.

Not a large one, Fresno is about 11/2 hour north or Burbank
1 1/2 hours south.
