POSITIVE
1. America possibly prevented the development of biological weapon for mass destruction. (Though proof of mass development was not found.)
2. America weakened, even for a while, activities of Muslim fundamentalists that are aimed to dessimate American interests worldwide
3. America, apparently, is siphoning precious oil from Iraq that would increase its oil reserves and speed up the drying of oil wells in a roughed state
4. American soldiers were able to pave the way for a better future of the Iraqi women who, as America pictured them, are devoid of rights compared to men, liike, they are not allowed the basic right of showing their faces in public, being punished in public, being shot at the back of head for petty crimes, etc.
5. American soldiers were able to save families, men, women and children from ethic violance between Shiites and Sunnis
6. American economy continue to flourish (despite the government money spent on the war) through:

6.1 Free testing ground for new military weapons
6.2 Reconstruction of built up areas done by American engineering companies
6.2 More rapid response in Middle East conflicts because they are there already
6.3 Less possibility of terrorist attacks in the homeland because of tighter grip around areas where terrorists train
6.4 More opportunity to influence the Iraqis on Amerca's democratic principles because of the assimilation of American culture with the local culture
6.5 Hands-on military training /experiences through actual combat

Wow, you're serious? Don't wanna hear bad about the war, huh? You sound like a certain president I know.

At this time the whole situation is awful. We've spent billions of dollars, the entire infrastructure is destroyed, 3000 American troops are dead, and from 70,000-600,000 Iraqis are dead (depending who you ask), and the nation teeters on the brink of civil war. Oh yeah: it has also made a lot more people hate America.

Any good that will come of this war can only be in the way looooong-term, because it is not in the present. But maybe someday Iraq will have a prosperous democracy. Maybe.

One good thing: Saddam Hussein is gone. And he was a baaad guy. Yay America!

Well, it has affected me personally because my husband was gruff manly man and when he came home from Iraq he was sweeter and softer and appreciated what he had waiting for him and he was so glad to have the home we have and live in the country we live in because he was there for the start of the war and he got to see first hand what the Iraqi people were living like before we got there. It changed him for the better and made him a much better family man. Second, it changed most of the people I know. Either in the same family ways my husband changed or in ways that you cannot imagine. For example, a friend of mine now has an intestinal bag he goes to the bathroom in because of his wounds and his house had to be modified to fit his wheelchair. Another friend of mine had to figure out how to go to the movies with no legs because the theater had no wheel chair access. As for Iraqi people, they are going to schools that were not open until recently. They are using hospitals that were closed to the public until recently. They are allowed to make choices instead of being told what to think and do. Those choices are sometimes wrong but they are making them on their own. They got to vote for the first time. They don't have to worry about being chosen for no reason to be tied to a pole in the middle of the street by their ankles and have their feet beaten until all the bones are broken and they can't walk. I have seen video of this happening and the crowd cheering when the men can no longer walk. They are beginning to be a free society which takes time and will get better but even our society isn't perfect and we've had hundreds of years to work it out. They've been working on it for 2 years. This war was needed and will be proven to be a great thing in time.

The war in Iraq has benefited the US by keeping our enemies busy in or near THEIR territory instead of in OURS.
Iraq has benefited by losing a dictator and starting up a democratic government with free elections. Torture and murder are no longer institutionalized.

Iraqi Infant

This is the story that must be told
of an Iraqi baby, not very old.

Lying in her crib one star lit night
How could she know of those planes in flight?

She lay there quietly touching her nose,
Watching her mobile, wiggling her toes,

Oohing and cooing, so sweetly is she,
Talking to someone, who could it be?

An angel is standing with her in the room.
The baby is smiling, unaware of her doom.

The crib starts to shake and the mobile goes round.
And suddenly comes a most deafening sound.

The ceiling drops in, in a second or two ...
On top of her crib so she ceases to coo ...

No one knows how long she lie there
Who thought about it? doesn't anyone care?

Is she alive? is she dead? Is she in any pain?
Now that you mention it, who knows her name?

Her name is Amal. In English we say Hope.
Crushed between the rubble, her tiny fingers start to grope.

Where is my mommy? I love her so dear
Come, get me mommy! It's dark in here!

I'm scared and I'm hungry and I can't see my feet.
There's blood in my mouth! Give me something to eat!

Where is my daddy? Where's my big brother?
It hurts when I breath! Where is my mother?!

How long have I been here? Is this just a dream?
I open my mouth, but can't even scream.

That angel appears once again to my side,
This time with a tear I plead Why have I died?

Am I alone in my sufferings? No, there are many others.
In our grief and our misery, we are sisters and brothers.

Who are we? I ask you ... for what crime did we die?
They're throwing a party! Doesn't anyone cry?!

Is it True? Am I nothing?! How could it be?
Don't they also have babies, just like me?

It is war they say, of which death is part.
How blind they've become, How hardened of heart.

Did someone say hero? To whom do they speak?
A victory claimed for killing the weak?!

Why are they happy? Why are they proud?
Don't they know that I'm cold in my burial shroud?!

No war has been won; No ifs, buts, or maybes,
They've Only Killed Babies!!!!

still with the war
