Welcome back! I got back in 2005 from an 18 month deployment with the Army. I've found most people thank me when they hear I've served over there. However, I recommend discussing opinions with a lot of people to learn more from both sides. I think the bigger issue is being for or against the war. Most people support our troops.

Whether I support the war or not is irrelevant , I for one do have respect for any person who has enlisted and fought for what they believe to be the right thing. It is easy for those of us who are sitting at home in relative safety away from these things to throw insults at people like you and around the Internet.
It is too hard to predict what things would be like if all the western countries presently involved never where. Generally I avoid answering these questions because of the bickering.
There are many women and men back home who spend each day worrying how their partner will come home and to see the nasty things said must really hurt these people too. The name calling will continue, they dont' know of the mental affect that it has on the soldier. The fact whether we like it or not is that the acts of terrorism have to be kept in check regardless of who/ or what religion.

I supported the war in Afghanistan. It was foolish to start a war in Iraq. There could have been better ways to deal with this problem. But the troop, THE TROOPS are HEROES. They are willing to give their all. I pray that they come back with both a whole body and and a sound mind. I have seen too many examples where one or the other and sadly both come back broken. GOD BLESS THE TROOPS!

I think the troops are fabulous. Thank you for your service.
Don't worry about the libs and the 'baby killer' rhetoric, or that they call you a liar. They never mature and are the same type of nasty, disgusting beings as the libs from the 70's.

Sorry, I too am a tad suspicious that you were called baby killer, but even if you were I travel some and I see folks buying troops beers, shaking their hands, putting 'em in parades. Thanks for your service. The troops & families are only ones making a sacrifice, if Bush was serious about Iraq then why arn't we all called on to sacrifice, as in pay more taxes to build up the military? Sincerely, "Nam Vet

Two years ago I stayed at the BOQ at Miramar MCAS. While I was there, my 6 year old daughter, who had never seen Marines, watched as a squad went through PT. She mistakenly called them "soldiers" until I taught her that those men were Marines. They were tougher, better trained, more dedicated, and more proud. They had a richer history, higher moral standing, and were the first to fight when the country called.
She looked at me and said, "When I grow up I'm going to be a Marine." I told her that I wanted her to be the best Marine she could. You should know that.

Some people don't get it. They never will get it. Our service members do the job, the follow orders, most of them could care less about politics and they are not at all thinking about what people back home say or think. They are concerned about staying alive one more day. They focus on that alone. I have walked the yellow foot prints and I was in honor and awe of all who have walked them and will walk them into service for our country.

I feel your efforts to serve your nation are sincere enough, but the man who leads this nation isn't. He is blinded by his set of doctrines and there is no room left for compromise. The 400 billion plus being spent in Iraq, could've been spent within the U.S. borders rebuilding our domestic infrastructure. This government is broke, plain and simple.... To use patriotism as a means to get what you want pushed through congress and the senate is very wrong in my opinion. To use implied fear to say if your not with "US" then your "AGAINST" us is plain cowardly. For that didn't work for Rome and it won't work for America. It's like the old Beatles song.. "CANT BUY ME LOVE" : Iraq was Bush's mistake not Amercia's. I think your sincere in doing what you think is just and fair, yet I feel no measure of force on the face of the earth can counter pure desperation. This is what your facing in your adversary. It's why the Soviet Union never used any nukes, they had just as much to lose as us. BTW.... They had over 15,000 WMD'S where was the pre emptive attack on them? Bush sold a lie and everyone is paying the price, some more than others. I do hope you can use the experience you had in the military to get yourself a nice paying job here in the U.S., my brother in law is going to become a contractor in about a year when his enlistment is up.....

In my book, the troops are doing the job they were hired to do. It is not their fault civilian politicians got them into a war. The fault is in the break-down of diplomacy.
I forget who said, "Our country, in her intercourse with foreign nations, may she always be in the right. Right or wrong."
If we are wrong, we must rectify that wrong, by forcing diplomacy.
