Fingernails grow about three or four times as quickly as toenails. Like hair, nails grow more rapidly in summer than in winter. If a nail is torn off, it will regrow if the matrix isn't severely injured. White spots on the nail are sometimes due to temporary changes in growth rate.
Nails grow at the rate of about 0.05 to 1.2 millimeters per week. A high protein diet can help your nails grow stronger and healthier. Though you can't feed the nail directly, a good diet is essential to overall nail health. Biotin-rich foods like eggs, soy, whole grains and liver are said to be extremely helpful to nails, along with foods rich in sulfur minerals like apples, cucumbers, grapes, garlic, asparagus and onions. Also, be sure your diet includes essential fatty acids, or EFAs. Like vitamins and minerals, foods rich in EFA's, such as salmon, nuts, seeds and tuna, help keep nails shiny and pliable. There are suppliments that you can buy but it's always better to get your nutrients directly from food.
Good luck to you!

It is some good stuff...

Making your nails grow faster is pretty much the same answer as having your hair grow faster: http://www.askastylist.bravehost.com/gen2.htm

Really, growth is the same all around, but keeping polish on them, or nail strengthener, will keep them from breaking off - which is the key to longer faster.

Keep them filed square, take the vitamin biotin, use a cuticle oil or pure jojoba oil on them.

You dont necesarily need a nail hardener unless they are flimsy or brittle.
