Has anyone else had this problem or know anyone with it? I also have osteoarthritis, mainly in my spine.(deteriorating disk disease) It is really getting hard to do anything now that I am 23 weeks. Any suggestions? The only meds I can take is tyenol. Heating pads and hot showers are out. I can't raise my body temp. I have also been having muscle spasms more often than before I was pregnant.

Always very healthy and very active. Though I was on Depo-provera for just over two years, which causes bone loss.

Well you have osteopenia, osteoporosis or osteoarthritis? They are kind of the same but aren't.They all have to do with the bones. Either way, just tylenol will help with weight bearing exercises. I have had osteopenia for...almost 7 years since I was 24 after going on medication for my endometriosis and sucked all the calcium out. In my neck and hips along with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Make sure you are taking in at least 1200mg of calcium because the baby takes alot of this during your pregnancy. Also try a maternity belt that will take some of the strain off your back. I just turned 31 so I know that even without being pregnant this can be painful. Just make sure you eat properly, take your calcium, do weight baring exercises and use a maternity belt to help relieve some of the pressure off your back. Also look into prenancy massages. This is helpful as long as you go with someone who is trained to massage pregnant women. I hope this helps. I know you can't use heating pads but you can use moist warm wash towels. Get a hand towel and put it under hot water to where it is tolerable and then put it on your back. Moist heat is ok and is what we recommend to our patients.

People need to read your question before they make rude comments like if your anorexic or were. You stated you were on the depo and yes this can depleat your bones of calcium due to the imbalance of hormones, it says so in the package insert as this being a side effect.

Remember exercising, stretching, yoga and weight bearing exercises as well as a diet high in vitamin d, calcium and potassium. Make sure you are taking your prenatal vitamins and add calcium!

I feel so sorry for you, I also have osteoarthritis, and deteriorating disk disease but I am not pregnant. I know all about the pain, it hurts so bad. If you cant use heat, then try ever chance that you can, put your feet up for awhile, I hope this will help. I hope you and youre baby do well.

I know you are pregnant but there are a lot of programs out there. Talk to your doctor and go and pick up fit pregnancy the magazine, they have all types of info in them for work out plans...
