Specifically, this would be a "gestational surrogacy", meaning that the surrogate is gestating the fetus, but is not the biological mother. If the pregnancy had been accomplished with the surrogate's ova (eggs), making her the biological mother of the child, then it would be deemed a "traditional surrogacy."
Given the advances made in reproductive medical technology, there can be up to five people (provider of egg, provider of sperm, woman who carries the pregnancy and parents who raise the child) with some nature of "parental" link to a child. It's an issue with many interesting ethical, moral and scientific implications.

1.) A WOMAN IS GIVEN HORMONS FOR ABOUT A MONTH (EITHER ORAL OR INJECTION)
2.) WHEN THE WOMAN IS OVULATING SHE GOES THROUGH A PROCEDURE TO HARVEST AS MANY EGGS AS POSSIBLE
3.)AROUND 6 EGGS ARE KEPT AND FERTILIZED WITH THE COLLECTED SEMEN AND THE REST ARE FROZEN IN CASE THEY ARE NEEDED LATER.
4.) THE EGGS ARE FERTILIZED BY HAND WITH THE SPERM AND WATCHED TO SEE IF ANY ARE VIABLE (FERTILIZED AND BECOMING A FETUS)
5.) A PROCEDURE IS DONE TO IMPLANT THE SURROGATE MOTHER (THE ONE WHO WILL CARRY THE BABY) WITH ALL THE VIABLE EGGS/EMBRYO'S.
6.) ABOUT 6 WEEKS LATER THE SURROGET IS GIVEN A PREGNANCY TEST AND THEY FIND OUT IF ANY OF THE EMBRYO'S EMPLANTED IN THE UTEROUS.
tHE PROCEDURE IS CALLED IVF (IN VITRO FERTILIZATION) AND THE WOMAN WHO CARRIES THE BABY IS CALLED A SURROGATE.
