How Do You Prevent Your iPod from Deleting Songs?

I was just wondering if there was anyway I could update my iPod by just adding the stuff I want.

For example, I don't like to keep too many files on my hard disk, so I delete them to save space. Is there anyway I can keep my iPod from deleting songs when I update it and just add new ones? Thanks.

If you update it automatically, then you should only check the box of the stuff you want to put in your iPod. If you update your iPod manually, then you should be fine.
