It should not damage any other parts of your knee, unless the doctor did something wrong which is very unlikely. I had the same surgery and since then I heard something about if you had your meniscus removed instead of repaired then there is a greater chance that you will need a knee replacement, which really bites. Just be sure that you let your knee heal completely before doing any physical activity. I think my doctor released me too soon to play sports....I started playing sports again a couple of months later and to this day my knee hurts pretty often and every couple of years I have to get shots in it. I think that there is also a greater risk for arthritis after that surgery. Hope this helps!

I too had an arthroscopy, and also had my torn meniscus mended. It enables to Doc to look all around inside your knee, and will fix anything else there that might be causing trouble. An arthroscopy is a medical procedure, it does not cause any damage at all.Make sure you do the excercises you have been given to get the knee back to full working order. Takes a while but after a couple of months I was back to normal and had no trouble since..

I had the same thing done. My miniscus was torn really bad. They repaired it and removed a lot of Arthritis from behind my kneecap. (I didn't know I had any there) The doctor also said that after removing all the arthritis, they then drilled 5 pin holes in my kneecap to allow for new cartlidge to rebuild ....
I continued to have pain for awhile. after 6 month checkup, I had gotten a steroid shot in knee that was to last for 3-6 months. For me, it lasted 3 weeks if I was lucky..
Dr said I was a good candidate for a knee replacement, but he said to wait b/cause I was too young. (50?)
Continued to have pain on right side of knee cap....Took Arthrotec 3 times a day(arthritis med) helped for awhile..
Now I take Tylenol Arthritis and it is working great. Very little pain. (hope this last longer) Good luck to you.

It should not have damaged anything- besides that they had to break the skin and probably through some other tissue in order to get in to "look around". An arthroscope is just a small camera that they use to assess what damage you ALREADY have... it does not cause any more damage.
