Makar sankranti falls on 14th jan thet is Uttarayana meaning sun travelling UP north wise on mother earth for us northern hemiphere walas.That brings winds and currents esp. in Gujarat where kite flying is a COMPLETE craze- a 3 days holiday defacto.so my interest .

Kite flying traditions in countries like China, Korea, Japan, malaysia, Thailand and some parts of New zealnd are held as a part of their traditional celebrations of New year.
In Guyana, on Easter Weekend thousands turn out for mass kite flying,
In Greece , kite flying is held on "Clean Monday", where it is celebrated with outdoors excursions, seafood consumption and other non-meat products, and the widespread custom of flying kites. Traditionally, it is considered to mark the beginning of the spring season.
In Pakistan , kite flying is a ritual for the spring festival known as Basant.

Yes ,Kite Festival is being celebrated excitingly in all the parts of India. I am a resident of Hyderabad here the sale has started a week ago.Also interesting part is even the Corporate companies come together and arrange competitions in this regard.So as a whole this is being celebrated enthusistically.

Kite flying is not celebration but fun among the people who are interested of it. it can be done during sunny and windy time

that holiday is actually only celebrated in india. my cuzin loveddd it when he lived there but he moved her now so cant celebrate it nemore. there r parks here 2 fly kites netime tho.
