Go to the Edison house/lab in Ft. Myers. Absolutely fascinating grounds and museum of his experiments. It has his house, descriptions of his light bulb experiments, antique autos, and lots of Edison's other inventions. If your kids are older than 7 or so, they'll be fascinated.

There's a really good Busch Gardens in Tampa, and several other theme attractions on the same road.

Venice Beach is very nice, lots of shark's teeth and shells. Sanibel Island and the Ding Darling Nature Reserve are beautiful drives and the beaches are lovely too.
