Not against helping people to get on their feet so don't misunderstand this. We that work have to take urine test to show we are clean and keep our job to keep the money rolling in. People on welfare just collect the money and never bothered by the testing. Just think of how much the government would save if they gave welfare recipients drug test.. ( I am not saying all use drugs). Do you agree ?? By the way , I do not use drugs so I could care less about drug testing.

as a person who's been on and off welfare (attended college and moved onto a better career) I agree, you seem like your labeling poor people as druggies. but i also see your point, why should people get free money when they could be going out and spending it on their next hit. but if we're going to drug test welfare recipients then we should also make sure everyone receiving it is a legal citizen of the states, is actively seeking to better their situation by finding a better career and or attaining a higher education. because lets face it 90% of the people who're eligible for welfare are also eligible for financial aid to help them attend college. instead of just handing out free money, we should make active participation in schooling with a minimum 2.0 GPA, or working/finding work, a requirement for welfare benefits. lets stop enabling our lower class to remain lower class and lets start educating them about a better life that can be theirs.

I would be willing to bet if Welfare recipients were drug tested and identity/citizenship thoroughly checked.. our country could eliminate 1/3 of the reciepients and we would have money to care for the other REAL problems in society!!

Most employers aren't requiring drug testing yet. At least not in my area. In my state and in many others, there is a "life-time benefit" maximum. 5 years in most places and sanctions if someone is not taking part in work search programs of some kind. I don't receive public benefits but I wouldn't submit to such testing if I did. I don't use drugs either. Sounds like you're stereotyping the poor.

Well, you know, I have never thought of that. Very good question. The place were I work has become extremely fond of giving test for everything. I'm like you, I can test negative everyday of the week. But, your right, free money, should require some test also.

Well in my state all the get is a max of 260 dollars a month. I couldn't live on that. I agree they do need to help they get employment instead of it being so easy to get welfare.

I agree, if they had to be drug tested to receive benefits, they would probably not even bother. To those of you who keep defending them, screw you, they have sucked off my paycheck long enough, maybe you dont mind giving a woman who has 10 babies she cant pay for your money, but I got my own to take care of.

I agree with you. They also need to be given a Norplant (birth control shot) if they are on any kind of public assistance.
