Homogeneous is transparent. Light will pass through it without being disbursed. Kool Aid, soft drinks, iced tea
Heterogeneous are cloudy. They may settle out if you leave the solution sit for a while. milk, paint, salad dressing

Homogeneous systems are systems of one phase, like liquids that can be mixture to together, or gasses, or finely powder solids.
Heterogeneous systems invole 2 phases, like a solid catylest and a gas, or a liquid and a solid/gas etc, they can also be 2 liquids that do not mix together.

homogeneous- you cannot see the substances involved in the mixture- cannot distinguish between them.
heterogeneous- you can see the different substances in the mixture
