Recall that mixed numbers are those in which the numerator of a fraction is greater than the denominator. To convert 4 9/10 into a mixed fraction, you multiply the denominator by the number of whole numbers, and add it to the numerator (4x10 + 9). From this you come up with 49. You then take this number and put it over the original denominator, 10.

This gives you the fraction 49/10. If you check, you can see that this number can be converted into 4 9/10, or 4.9
