System software is a software which helps to run the computer. for example O.S's like windows, linux etc., Application software helps us to perform some different tasks. for example any game softwares.

I would say:
System software = programs that work for the operating system to function or help the OS. For example: Fdisk, Defrag
Application software = programs that are for specific purposes to help the user accomplish work. For example: Word, Excel, Firefox

Application Software:
