Recently I read a book called Territory in which the main character is happy to have sex with the aborigines on his property along with the whores of the town, but when his wife finds comfort in another man's arms after he hits her, he gets extremely angry considering her as nothing but a whore. The book begins at WW2 in Darwin. What I want to know is áre there men that still think that it is fine for them to have casual sex but not for their wives." I have read many historical books where this idea is very common, one book where the wife encouraged it in order not to have more children.

come on now, ... men are men! No man wants to know his wife is cheating on him, even if he is having an sexual affair outside the marriage.

My brother in law was like that. He married an American woman for 10 years, and while still married to her went to his home country and married a 16 year old child. I know this because his father told me. He knocked up that 16 year old child on their very first wedding night ( basically rape since she didn't know him until they were alone after the wedding). He left here there with his parents, she gave birth while he was here cheating on her with many other women, he filed for a quick divorce from his first wife. Then when the child was almost a year, he brought the baby and wife back, knocked her up that first night again, and to this day treats her as if she's the one who needs permission to breathe because she just might cheat. Thanks to me, she now stands up to him, tells him to get his own damn glass of water when he's at the sink and she's busy with one of the children, and fights him when he tries to neglect her and their three children. Oh, and he's taught the children to tell on her when she yells at them, then turns to her and starts calling her every curse name in the book. He's a pathetic insecure animal and all men who even act a little bit like this should be castrated and forced to live in a pig pen.

Well, overall yes, men and women's veiws of gender and gender roles have changed since WWII, but that doesn't mean that these sorts of ideas aren't still hanging around. There are plenty of archaic ideas floating around. If you read enough of this section on answers you'll see a lot of religious people and others saying things like 'men should act like male [stereotypes] and women should act like women [stereotypes]" And some other ridiculousness about the 'nature' and 'inate traits' of men and women. So yes, unfortunately there is still a lot of ignorance and inequality towards women and men.

Yes, there are still men that think like that. Women also. I was married to a man like that. It was alright for him to do as he pleased but I was not allowed to even speak to a man. It was a long time ago, but I hear his new wife gets it too.
