Why do some people try to act "Black" & "ghetto"? Why would someone want to pretend to live in poverty?

There is this Caucasian girl in my class, and I am sorry to say but she really gets on my nerves. She tries to act Black and ghetto by going the whole nine yards; like speaking with Ebonics, dressing "thug", putting hair in cornrows, things like that. The thing is, she is a rich White kid who owns a ranch form and is trying to act like she is all hard and down with "black" people, or whatever the hell that is supposed to mean.

This is just an example, but why do some people pretend to be from the "ghetto". Why would someone WANT to live i the ghetto in the first place? I think that it is rather annoying even when Middle or Upper class Black kids try to act "ghetto", but it is even more irritating when it is done by White people. No offense to anyone.

And what is with White & Asian kids going around spitting out the "n" word? What the hell?

Heck, i don't know why black people pretend to be from the ghetto either. I think it's actually worse when a suburban BLACK kid does it, because that's what everyone expects and he/she is just adding to the stereotype.

Anyway, it's the popular, cool thing to do in America. If South Asian music, culture, etc becomes more popular, everyone will be wearing weird versions of saris and trying to speak Hindi. it's just the way American culture works

I know EXACTLY what you mean, and it bugs the hell out of me. I go to a high school that two junior highs feed into. The one I came from is middle class, the other is upper-middle-class and VERY snooty. What kills me is that it's mostly the UPPER-class ones that try to act "ghetto." "Ghetto" is the new cool, apparently. The morons. They're so PHONY. Friggin posers. I don't know why anyone would want to be "from the ghetto" and the rest of that sh!t.

I think part of the problem might be the media. For example...I love the Fresh Prince and all, but he makes ghetto look cool, as do famous rappers.

i'm caucasian in a not-so-well-but-not-so-bad off suburb of chicago. The reason people in our area do it is to prevent a mugging, or relate with the majority in out area that is mexican (not latino), and black. so pretty much any1 under 40 in our city know spanish and can fight really well, and all speak a little to all ghetto.

Its because the white girl imitates her perception of the behaviour of black people that she as directly or indirectly been influenced by or just a simple fad .It has something to do with her fitting in i suppose even though its fake.

Apparently, looking like a loser is considered desirable. I noticed this phenomenon decades ago with the hippy movement. All of a sudden, kids wanted to look like dope addicts, the hair, the clothes, the language: "hey man...where's your head at?"

Now, it's the rag on the head, pants falling down, and the language is pretty much like the old "Amos and Andy".

I don't understand it. It you act like a looser, people will treat you like one. Then you can whine about how you are being discriminated against. And how unfair everything is.

It goes on and on.

She is confused. Don't hate her. Try to be patient and understanding. She is obviously feeling a bit alienated and needs some attention from somebody. She's just doing what she saw on television.

You wanna be "gangsta" come down to my neighborhood and meet some gangsTERS. Our neighborhood is safe, civillians don't get killed, and our food is a hell of lot better than malt liquor and chicken wings. Frank is also infinitely cooler than 50 Cent will ever be.

Who shoots a man NINE times and he still lives? The idiot probably held the gun sideways to look "dope". If an Italian shot Curtis Jackson, two shots he would have been dead. One shot from a .38 (not a Nahn or a Glock) to put him down, one shot in his brain.
