Ran in 1980, challenged Jimmy Carter, (sitting President), had a terrible TV interview with Dan Rather concerning a traffic accident in 1969 he had where a woman drowned (not his wife) by driving off of a bridge while drunk, and he didn't report it until 9 hours later, lost the nomination, didn't shake Carter's hand at the convention. Alcoholic, off and on the wagon.

Delusional then, really, that he could be President.

His first wife, sadly, is alcoholic also, still is. Very sad. She was very shy and never fit in with the outgoing and rowdy Kennedy's.

No he has never run for president I think he never has because of what happened to brothers John and Robert He did not want to be the 3rd Kennedy brother to get shot and killed while running for president.

he tried to run the year that ford ran against jimmy carter but carter beat him out for the spot on their parties ballot. so carter got to run against ford. had kennedy beat carter he probably would have beaten ford and become the new president.

Just had to respond because people were giving thumbs down to the correct answer, 1980. Are the thumbs down because they hate him or because they think the answer is wrong? LOL

If he does, would he really have a snowball's chance in hell to win? All we need is a drunk president. Fratwatch 2008 baby!

He won't run because for some weird reason nobody talks about Chappaquidick any more but if he ran for president they'd rehash it ENDLESSLY and he really doesn't want to do that.

No. After seeing two of his brothers die of acute lead poisoning any thoughts or ambitions to be president probably died with them.......................
